It
was my honour being the 2008 & 2009, Ontario Quarter Horse
Association Queen. Many of my life's fondest memories thus far
have took place during my reign as “Quarter Horse Royalty”.
However, like all great things, this too must come to an end!
I would like to thank the Ontario Quarter Horse Association,
members and executive for being so supportive of me on my
journey, and for all the opportunities you have given to me
along the way.
June 5th will be a very bitter sweet day
for me as the 2010 Ontario Quarter Horse Queen is crowned, I am
very excited to hand my crown down to Ontario’s next ambassador,
but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to miss it!
To our future Queen, I wish you all the best during your
reign. Enjoy every moment, every event, and don’t forget to take
it all in! As this year will pass by all to quickly. Be sure to
take lots of pictures, meet lots of new people, and of course
study, study, study those AQHA rules!
Oh, and I almost
forgot, from an insiders perspective, I can tell you one thing
for sure, your are going to need some sturdy hot rollers and a
lot of high quality hairspray!
I cannot wait to watch you
represent Ontario in the 2010 Congress Queen Contest, and am
very fortunate and excited about having the opportunity share
this experience with you!
Best of Luck to the 2010 Queen
Candidates, and a very successful and safe show season to all
Ontario Members!
Yours Truly, Miss Ashley Cook 2009

Miss Ashley Cook, age 21 of Tilbury, ON was crowned the 2009
All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen during the All
American Quarter Horse Congress Recognition Night Ceremonies on
the evening of Monday October 19, 2009, at the Coliseum of the
Ohio State fair grounds in Columbus, Ohio.
Miss Cook was
given the honour of representing the Ontario Quarter Horse
Association (OQHA) as their Queen this past June after winning a
contest held by OQHA, which was very similar to the contest she
won in Ohio. Along with the responsibility of promoting the
Quarter Horse breed and OQHA at events throughout Ontario, came
the honour of representing Canada and competing for the title of
the 2009 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen from October
14 to 18, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio. The Ontario Quarter Horse
Association is the only Canadian affiliate association to send a
representative to compete in this renowned and respected
competition with its forty-one year history.

As
the Ontario Quarter Horse Association Queen I have had a busy
and very successful summer so far! Since my last message I’ve
been to Summerama, The Regional 4 Experience and Area 1 All
Novice Show.
I celebrated Canada Day at the Caledon
Equestrian Park where Area 3’s Summerama was held. The Caledon
Equestrian Park is a wonderful facility with beautiful grounds
and a beautiful view from the show pens. I was busy throughout
the whole show making ribbon presentations, and was present at
the wine and cheese function where I met many past OQHA
presidents and Hall of Fame members. Everyone who is a part of
the Area 3 committee did a fabulous job and made the show run
smoothly and safely. I think the biggest highlight of the entire
show was the fabulous weather. It was my first Summerama with no
rain!
Shortly after Summerama I was off to Columbus, Ohio
to the Regional 4 Experience held at the Columbus State Fair
Grounds. At the Regionals I met many other queens from Ohio,
Kentucky, Indiana and more! Thursday through Sunday I was busy
making presentations and trying to watch as many exhibitors from
Ontario to cheer them on! Throughout the show I was also present
at Ice Cream social on Friday night and barbeque on Saturday
night. There was also a silent auction and a live auction in
which the Ontario Quarter Horse Association donated some
beautiful items. Money raised was going to help a family from
Ohio who was in a terrible truck and trailer accident. A pair of
George Strait tickets went for over $500!! It was a great night
to socialize and also help out a family in need.
I had a
few days at home and then I was off to Ilderton for the OQHA All
Novice Show and Area 1's Summer Celebration. The All Novice show was a
great success, the weather held out and we were up entries form
last year. Hopefully this will once again guarantee that this
show is the largest All Novice Show in the World for 5 straight
years! The big event of the weekend was a Celebrity Western
Pleasure class organized by Miss Ashley Cook, Congress Queen.
The money raised for the Celebrity Western Pleasure Class was
being donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. I was busy during
the show collecting donations, handing out ribbons and
collecting entries for the western pleasure charity.
When
it was time for the class to start there was a total of 19
entries! We had Lady Gaga, Ozzie Ozbourne, Dolly Parton, Carrie
Underwood and Mike Fisher, Hannah Montana, Cruella Deville,
Captain Jack Sparrow, Avril Lavigne and a Retro Barbie just to
name a few! The arena was full of spectators and it was full of
laughs! The top 5 placings were awarded pay back money. Many
exhibitors graciously donated back this money as a donation.
This brought our grand total to over $500 dollars raised for the
Canadian Cancer Society.
Now I have a bit of a break from
showing, but I’m still busy getting sponsors, preparing my ad
for the Congress Program and of course studying the rulebook. I
would like to thank all of my sponsors and supporters. My next
event will be Area 1’s 4 day show at the end of August.
I’d like to end my message by sharing something with all Ontario
Exhibitors. I had a woman come up to me at the Regionals and ask
if I was from Ontario. I responded yes, and she replied: “
Everyone from Ontario is so friendly. Everyone cheers for
everyone and is so supportive, it must be so nice!” I agree with
her 100 percent both as an exhibitor and Queen representative. I
think that is what makes the Ontario Quarter Horse Association
so special. I’ve had wonderful support for Ontario and I would
like to thank everyone! Hope to see you in August!

On
June 5th 2010 I was honored and excited to be crowned The
Ontario Quarter Horse Association’s 2010 OQHA Queen. In order
to represent the OQHA as queen I completed an oral interview, a
written test of my knowledge of the Ontario Quarter Horse
Association and American Quarter Horse Association Rules and
Regulations, and a horsemanship pattern.
That Saturday
evening many exhibitors from the Area 1 Spring Classic came to
the reception and crowing ceremony where both the 2010 Queen and
Princess were crowned. I would like to congratulate our 2010
OQHA Princess Miss Jackie Heitzner. Jackie was the first
Princess to ever memorize her entire speech! I know she will
make a fantastic Princess and youth role model.
I would
like to thank everyone who helped organize the ceremony and made
it such an enjoyable night for everyone. Special thanks to
Laurie Haughton, Debbie Haughton, Ashley Cook, Dianne Amlin,
Lynn Scott and Jamie Simpson as my interview judges. A very
special thank you to Vonda and Ken O’Donnell for the use of
their phenomenal horse “ BSB Don’t Ask Me” and Vonda for
coaching. I would also like to thank Mom, Dad, Lauren, and Tom
for being so supportive and to Vonda O’Donnell Performance
Horses show team for cheering me on!
This past weekend I
represented the OQHA along with 2009 Congress Queen and OQHA
Queen 2009, Miss Ashley Cook at Toronto Horse Day. It was a fun
filled day with horse enthusiasts of all ages. I will proudly
represent the OQHA at many events this year such as Regional 4
Experience, OQHA Novice Show, Area 1 Sunsational Summer Circuit
Lope for a Cure Celebrity Western Pleasure, Ontario Quarter
Horse Breeders Futurity, and the All American Quarter Horse
Congress.
I have been given many opportunities to
represent Ontario in other events such as the American Quarter
Horse Association’s Youth World Cup held in 2008, Ontario’s 2009
NYATT Team and now the 2010 OQHA Queen. From these past
experiences I have gained skills that will help me compete at
the All American Quarter Congress Queen Contest.
At the
2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress I will represent OQHA
in the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen Contest in
October. I will be competing against Queen’s from several AQHA
affiliates. Ontario is the only Canadian affiliate sending a
queen; therefore I will be the only Canadian in the contest. I’m
very excited to compete at the All American Quarter Horse
Congress and strive to make Ontario proud.
Being the 2010
OQHA Queen is much more than wearing a sash and crown. It
coincides with many responsibilities such as promoting the OQHA,
the Quarter horse, and being positive role model. My love and
dedication for the American Quarter Horse will push me to me the
best. I’m blessed to own and show two talented Quarter Horses,
Little Scotch Toffee and Timely Selection who show within the
OQHA. The Ontario Quarter Horse Association is a great
association with friendly members who respect and love the
Quarter Horse.
Thank you to OQHA for giving me this
amazing opportunity and I’m looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely, Lindsay Allen 2010 OQHA Queen |
