Eligibility

Six Simple Steps to Enter the Ontario Quarter Horse Breeders’ Futurity

1. Be a member of the OQHA (Ontario Quarter Horse Association).
2. Breed to a stallion in the Stallion Service Sale
3. Make Mare Nomination by April 1st the year the foal is born ($30). Enter foal by June 15th ($50).
4. Yearling entry fee due June 15th ($50).
5. 2 Year old entry fee due June 15th ($150/ $50 for 2yr old Halter).
6. 3 Year old entry fee due June 15th ($150).

All Breed Slot Classes offered
● Open 4 yo and under Hunter Under Saddle
● Open 4 yo and under Western Pleasure
● Open All Sex Yearling Halter Class
● Non-Pro all age Hunter Under Saddle
● Non-Pro all age Western Pleasure

Limited to 20 slots per class.
Open Slots: $250
Non-Pro Slots: $150

Performance Slots can be purchased up until July 4th, 2010 with a $100 penalty up to 10am Saturday September 11, 2010 if slots are still available. Horses can be named up until 10am Saturday Sept 11, 2010. Classes will be jackpotted (10% of entry fee withheld for administration), 5 Judges to be selected by slot owners day of show.

Halter Slots can be purchased up until July 4th, 2010 with a $100 penalty up to 8 am Saturday September 11, 2010 if slots are still available. Horses can be named up until 8am Saturday Sept 11, 2010. Classes will be jackpotted (10% of entry fee withheld for administration), 5 Judges to be selected by slot owners day of show.

Futurity News

The 2010 OQHBF and Fall Finale Quarter Horse show will once again be held at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy in Newmarket. We would like to thank everyone for responding with their thoughts and suggestions on the venue. We understand that this location may not appeal to everyone, but please understand that the OQHBF committee did not make this decision lightly and after going through the responses from you, our exhibitors, we feel at this time the RCRA is our best option for 2010.

Each facility has its positive and negative points but we decided based on what appeals to the majority of our exhibitors and at the same time works best for the futurity. From the many responses received, the following factors are important to our exhibitors.

* Central location within Ontario
* Safe and adequate stalls for both young and seasoned horses
* Cost Effective
* Adequate warm up area rain or shine
* Adequate show ring rain or shine
* Good footing and lighting

RCRA has been extremely accommodating and continue to make positive changes to improve the facility. They are striving to make RCRA the premier facility that people want to show at.

At this time, many new improvements have already gone into the facility and they continue to improve things daily. Some of the recent improvements include, new footing in arenas, new roof and skylights in the smaller warm up arena, new permanent roofs on the outdoor stalls, all new lighting in the recent barns that were built, new electrical in the camping area, and a new sounds system throughout the facility. There will be additional food booths and we are in the midst of negotiating other concerns that have been raised to our committee.

We understand that no one facility will appeal to everyone, but we hope that with the improvements that RCRA has made and continue to make in 2010, that come September, you will feel that the OHQBF committee made the right decision.

The OQHBF Committee is working hard on pursuing many new ideas for the show. Be sure to watch for updates as we finalize details. We are looking forward an exciting 2010 and we hope to see you in Newmarket!
