Well another show season has came and gone. What a wonderful
show season it was though, good weather for almost all shows and
great turnouts as well.
The youth held a beef BBQ at the
four day Ilderton show to fundraise for the OQHA Congress Team.
It was a success! The nasty weather that evening didn’t put a
damper on dinner. Thank-you to all the youth that helped out and
brought the delicious food and to the parents that helped as
well. We have a great bunch of youth on our Congress Team.
The Ontario Breeders Futurity was also held in Ilderton for
the first time. It was also another great show. Congratulations
to all the winners.
The Paris fair show was a good size
and the weather held off for us, though it was a bit cold. I
know I would much rather show in the cold than in the rain.
I hope everyone had a wonderful show season and hope to see
you all next year. Good luck to all competing at Congress.

Can-am was a very successful fundraising event.
A big
thank-you to Home Hardware for donating a popcorn machine and
popcorn, if not for all your help we could not have done it.
We had a great turnout of youth willing to put in a few hours of
help. The youth who attended were Kennedy Almas, Chelsea Leigh,
Amanda & Taylor Martini, Tyler Cressman, Amanda Thomson, Taylor
Bennewies, Rianna Storey, Meghan Charest, Paige Fleetwood,
Lindsay Lehmann, Sarah Dow, Tianna & Alex Domingos, Erin &
Alexandra Cross-Nicholls.
It was a fun filled weekend with a
lot of laughs and a good time to catch up. Donations for popcorn
were steady all weekend with a grand total of $935.00!
Congratulations everyone on a job well done. Also thank you to
Kathy Patterson, my mom and any other moms and dads who helped
out.
Lets continue to raise money throughout the year!

The Ontario Quarter Horse Youth
Association enjoyed another successful year in 2010. Thank you
to each one of you and the organizations that supported the
OQHYA over the past year!
The OQHYA Board of Directors held
fund-raisers and other functions for 85 youth members in 2010.
Thank you to President Paige Carter Fleetwood for her enthusiasm
and excellent leadership and to the OQHYA Board for continuing
to work hard to support their organization!

Activities & Team Experiences
OQHYA members started
the year off with a successful Annual meeting and a Mint
Smoothie Fundraiser at the Annual banquet. Thank you to Home
Hardware for donating gift items for our meeting attendants!
Congratulations to Team Canada for their 5th place finish at the
2010 AQHYouth World Cup held in Oklahoma City in July 2010.
OQHYA members Kennedy Almas, Paige Carter-Fleetwood, Jasmyn
Rivait, Rianna Storey and Amanda Thomson were all proud members
of Team Canada.
Youth members from across the province
participated and brought home numerous awards from the Regional
Experience for Region Four held at the fairgrounds in Columbus,
Ohio in July 2010.
OQHYA had a team of nine members
exhibiting at the AQHYA World Show in 2010. Antonia DeGroot

Congratulations to the Donaldson band “Donaldson
Ranch Hands” on their 1st place performance in the instrumental
division of the AQHYA World Show Talent Contest!
Congratulations to all those who participated and represented
Ontario at these shows!
The OQHYA members and families held a
“Beef Barbeque”, at Summer Celebration in August at Ilderton
Ontario. I would like to thank the sponsors and all those who
donated, volunteered and helped make the fundraising a
successful and fun weekend! Thank you also to the Nicholls
family who donated a wine basket for a successful raffle held
over the weekend!
The OQHA and OQHYA once again sent a team
to the All-American Quarter Horse Congress NYATT in October at
Columbus, Ohio. There were 434 youth participating on 70
teams. A team of eight proudly represented the province and
competed in five events. Congratulations to the following team
members on their excellent showing and a spectacular 8th place
finish for Ontario!
